Welfare

Welcome to Bowland’s Education and Welfare page!

We (Lee and Anna) are your current male and female Education and Welfare Officers (hopefully it goes without saying which of us is male/female!)

We work both within the college as well as on a LUSU and university level to do with everything Education and Welfare related! This basically means anything that affects students, their studies and general wellbeing. Not surprisingly, this relates to a wide range of topics, which are covered on the different LUSU committees we sit on to make sure Bowland students have a voice where it matters!

“Now Ben Nye has returned the tea bags he stole!”

For this reason, we need to know what you think and if you’re having any problems with things that are affecting your university life - be it something to do with accommodation, friends, your course, alcohol, coursework, sex, stress, careers, money, exams, drugs – absolutely anything you can think of that comes under the Education and Welfare metaphorical umbrella. We don’t claim to be experts, but we’re trained to help you find the information and further help you might need. There are a lot of helpful services offered in and around the university that aren’t especially well known. We can also help to raise awareness of issues that are affecting students, and work towards doing something to change them!

Come along to our office hours, every Monday for Anna in term time from 3.30-4.30pm, and every Firday for Lee 12.00 - 1.00; where we hang out in the JCR Office so come down and chat about anything at all, just for a cup of tea (now Ben Nye has returned the tea bags he stole!), or of course, to pick up free supplies of condoms and lube.

A big part of our roles is to respect your rights to confidentiality, to be unbiased and essentially act as signposts for more information, letting you know of possible options and routes you might want to take. Anything discussed would remain private.

You can also email us at bowland_edandwelfare@hotmail.co.uk.

We both write for the Bowland Lady, so look out for our articles (which vary from “serious ed and welf journalism” to sillier topics depending on the issue!)

Hope to see you around,
